Read Reviews for Top Rated Anodizing Companies

Metal Anodizing is a common secondary technique to improve corrosion resistance, wear and increase adhesion of paint and adhesives. The most common metal that is anodized is aluminum. Almost all aluminum parts will be anodized to help create a thicker oxide layer.

The anodizing process typically uses direct current and an electrolytic solution. The thickness of the oxide layer is controlled by the voltage applied. There are other anodizing processes that can be used which include organic acid anodizing, chromic acid anodizing (Type I), sulfuric acid anodizing (Type II and Type III), phosphoric acid anodizing and borate baths.

Besides aluminum, titanium is also commonly anodized. With titanium, different colors can be achieved during the process. This is used for a coloring of jewelry and consumer products. More recently, anodizing titanium is used in medical devices to color different size implants. This allows the doctor to easily choose the correct size.

Additional metals which can be anodize include: zinc, magnesium, niobium and tantalum.
