Printing Services

Printing Services vendors provide printing on almost any type of surface. They can print on shirts and apparel, paper, plastic, metal and more. In addition, there are numerous printing techniques and size capabilities. Some types of printing include:

  • Offset Lithography – the most common type of printing. Ink is transferred from a metal plate to a rubber cylinder then applied to the paper.
  • Engraving – This is a specialized process that is normally used for high-end stationary and letterhead.
  • Letterpress – The original printing process developed by Gutenberg. A plate is used to directly transfer ink to the paper.
  • Digital Printing – As the name suggests, this is printing directly from a computer to the printer. There are no plates or screens that need to be created. This process can be expensive due to the ink and paper used in the printing process. Also, color matching maybe more difficult because of a mismatch between the color on the computer monitor and the final product.
  • Pad Printing – When it is necessary to print on a 3D object, this is typically printing process to use. It involves transfer of the 2D image to the object using a plate and a silicon pad. Changes in the physical nature of the ink at each stage of the process allows for the ink to be transferred to the next step until it ends up on the product.
  • Flexography – A special type of printing that uses flexible plates. This process is used mainly for packaging products.

Many other types of printing exist and are used everyday including, screen printing, electrostatic printing, and thermographic printing.

Depending on what needs to be printed, brochures, business cards, photographs, packaging or on the product itself, one or more of the printing processes will work. Choosing the optimal method for your needs should take into consideration budget, timeline and general look necessary. VendOp has reviews for all types of Printing Service vendors.
