Exceptional customer service, pricing, selection and a very green company for a logging operation.

Strengths: We use Big Creek Lumber company as a supplier of milled redwood lumber products. They are a "farm to table" operation, meaning they grow, harvest, mill and sell redwood from their own property at their own lumber yards. They are also one of the Greenest logging operations I know of. The McCreary brothers started the business many years ago and have worked hard to maintain sustainability. This is a major selling point for out company as it is a core value to our mission statement. We have custom spec virtually every form of redwood available from Big Creek Lumber and use it for bridges, decking, fencing, picnic tables and every other imaginable use. When we needed to refinish custom picnic tables which allowed disabled access, Big Creek scheduled a time slot in their milling process and custom milled the pieces for us. There was no additional charge for this, and we were just charged by the board foot based on the grade of redwood we wanted. Their customer service is excellent and very responsive to our needs. We have been extremely satisfied with their products, service and integrity.

Big Creek Lumber also managed a contract logging operation on property we owned and the were simply amazing. They only did select cut logging and left the site in great condition. As a result of their operation, we noticed rates of tree growth after the logging to be 3-5% greater then before. Their timber management practice is a great addition to all they do.

Needs to improve: When you need a custom order for milled wood, there will sometimes be a delay due to their scheduling of the planing mill. They will have to re-set the planer knives and can only do this when there is a window in their own production. This is a very minor setback relative to their overall quality of work.
