Strengths: Briggs and Stratton make great quality, economical small gas engines which we use as a component suppler for various agricultural machinery we make. They power pumps, compressors, specialty mowers and multi-function tools. They have great nationwide parts support and their engines are generally reliable. They have a great line of 5-8 hp motors in both horizontal and vertical shaft configurations. They have been around for many years, so reliability of supply is good.

Needs to improve: They are not as reliable or long lasting as Honda power products, but they are also cheaper in initial cost. Some designs are older, less efficient side valve motors compared to the overhead valve motors of the competition. This means they are less fuel efficient.
