Sitting in the foothills of Bragg Creek, Alberta, this large family home incorporates massive Douglas Fir timbers, with indigenous rock work to create a family home that integrates naturally with the surrounding landscape. With a view of the rugged Rocky Mountains and a timber frame at its core, this home boasts many unique features. The great room is a stunning hall of light with large windows framed by massive timbers. Hamill Creek Timber Homes designed, built and installed a showpiece Douglas fir timber staircase to the second floor; which incorporates a curved balcony with an additional wooded circular staircase that gives access to the children’s’ ‘hidden loft’. Hamill Creek Timber Homes used reclaimed wood to manufacture all of the millwork, including the custom doors, cabinetry, art niche, and all interior trim. This wood, reclaimed from Canadian grain elevators, still shows evidence of its past life, such as rusty nail and bolt holes, and the rivulets created by the effect of grain pouring over the wood for hundreds of years. The home’s high R Value insulation system wraps the timber frame structure in a thick blanket of unbroken rigid insulation, ensuring the lofty spaces do not lose heat to the upper regions. The Westcliffe was a very complex timber frame renovation and addition to a Colorado ranch house. No little stagecoach road house this: the home is announced by a huge arched timber porte-cochere at its entrance. Its many large decks and patios give views out over the rolling hills and grass prairie of the surrounding ranch lands. The timber frame was built on an oversized scale to suit the grandeur of the home and its surrounding landscape, and incorporates much decorative and structural iron work. Most of the ground floor is open to magnificent timbered cathedral ceilings. Many floor to ceiling windows in the public rooms flood the home with natural light, which shows off the owners large collections of art and curios. The timber on the exterior of this stunning home is set off with a facade of natural local stone. Distinguishing features of the Westcliffe floor plan include:

We were pleased to be a part of yet another special project in the tropics, where all those involved had a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship that can go into a home. Laid out as a courtyard home, this 5 bedroom home was designed to meet the needs of a large family or discerning vacationer. The architecture of this home features hand hewn cedar timber trusses, creating awe inspiring spaces in the home, so the owners can enjoy magnificent views of the Hawaiian coast. An open timber frame lanai and a unique ox bow truss that carries the vaulted great room roof are some of the many features inspired by a fusion of both the Craftsman style and construction of the old Hawaiian canoes. Designed by Mark de Reus in association with Hart Howerton Architects. As with many other of our homes in Hawaii, the Meldman Hale is a design of balanced simplicity, joining both outdoor gardens with living spaces to create a sense of harmony. The steel straps that wrap the ox bow trusses interplay with the hand hewn timbers to achieve both structure and decoration. Many of the distinguishing features of this beautiful home include:
