Technical staff at Illumina is very knowledgeable and our scientists can get the answers they need in a rapid response time.

Strengths: Illumina is a leader in next generation sequencing technology and genotyping technologies. We have used their HiSeq 2500 sequencers and SNP genotyping chips and found they outperform all competitors by a large margin. Customer and technical support are responsive and very knowledgeable. Questions that CSR's cannot answer are elevated to PhDs with domain expertise.

Illumina technical support has provided excellent assistance in designing customized products (exome capture targets, custom beadarrays). They also offer high quality sequencing and genotyping services.

Needs to improve: Custom exome target enrichment prices are higher than competitors especially for small volumes. Also reagent costs for their HiSeq and MiSeq sequencers often increase one or twice a year, forcing you to pay a premium for their products. The quality is excellent, but price increases are the norm. While their bioinformatic pipeline is strong, it is not state of the art and we have seen better results with experienced bioinformaticians running their own pipelines.

When your company collaborates with Illumina as we have you know you are dealing with leading-edge services and products. for our cystic fibrosis facility where we are specializing in the treatment and care for pts with CF, we have contracted to use the MiSeqDx system. its the first FDA cleared diagnostic platform for CF testing. we have been excited to try this product. because it runs both the 139-Variant Assay and the MiSeqDx CF Clinical Sequencing Assay it has helped us to streamline the laboratory workflow and increase our operational efficiency.

We're a small startup and we outsource our testing and analysis to third parties like Illumina. In this case we outsource our RNA and DNA sequencing for our R&D division. We've had nothing but positive experiences with Illumina as their team was extremely insightful, thorough and available to address our concerns. Their analysis was well performed, documented and objectively accurate. Turnaround time was fairly quick as well and will reach out to again.

My start up uses Illumina for our testing and analysis of medical device prototyping. In this case we outsource our RNA and DNA sequencing that our R&D group cannot handle. We've had great experiences with Illumina, their staff was extremely knowledgeable, thorough and available to address our issues. Their analysis was well executed, documented and objectively accurate. Turnaround time was quite quick as well and will contract to them again.

We use Illumina for their ChIP-Seq (Chromatin Immunoprecipitation Sequencing). It’s ability to identify interactions between protein, DNA, and RNA have been helpful in interpreting some regulation events for biological processes. Their indexed samples have also been cost-effective for us as well by cutting down the re-runs we’ve had to perform in the past.

We have procured Illumina Inc in the past to purchase chemicals to help provide a very accurate testing when building new prototypes from project to project. These guys are very reliable, responsive, and delivered on time. Cannot complain about our experience. Will definitely use again in the future.
