Strengths: We just purchased 5 of their new model: MX-500P. Plugged in the units and slapped on the Tips to the wan. Screwed the Wan into the port 1 (Dual Ports 1 & 2). Repeated with Port 2. Turn on the power and got an error message. It appeared that the Wan was not screwed in all the way. It's a little tricky. After securing the wan to the unit, the tip heated up right away. Got my tester HAKKO FG-101 and tested the Temperature (Tip rated 700F +/-50F), AC Leakage 2>, and the 2> ground resistance. All Test Pass with all 5 units. Very Happy. I have using Metcal when they first introduce their first model many years ago and they have always been very pleased with their performance and reliability. I highly recommend them.

Needs to improve: It's a little tricky screwing the wan to the unit - They should come up with a better design.

Soldering quality vary depending on tip geometry thats why we look for a vendor that can meet our needs in terms of board thickness, temperature, flux type, solder type, and soldering technique, Metcal have it all,it has extending tip life applicable to tip geometry even in desoldering and rework that we always performed.we are not woried in our health because Metcal has a fume extraction to remove all the toxic solder fumes.
