Sierra Wireless

We purchased Routers and Modems from Sierra Wireless to provide wi-fi to our patrons at our pool and gym areas. However, we soon found out that their are many problems with these modems and routers and we quickly switched to new routers and modems from a different company. Some of the problems is that the wi-fi would shut off for our patrons, and we would have to restart the system, which is an inconvenience to our valued patrons.

Strengths: -Ok Routers and Modems
-Ok Prices

Needs to improve: -Routers and Modems do not always transmit -Price can be high -Router brakes down easily

I am responsible for the purchase and installation of Sierra Wireless modems in our departments trucks. We do function in remote areas and often with limited wireless coverage, but in general, have not been really happy with their modems. We frequently loose connectivity and the modems do not automatically re-establish a connection, resulting in a full reboot of the modem. Firmware does not always fix problems and we have difficulty with customer service.

Strengths: Wide band modems. Reasonable data transfer speed. Fairly robust cases. Relatively inexpensive. Adaptable to various mounting points.

Needs to improve: Sketchy customer support. Modem's loose connectivity. Software updates don't always work. Loss of temporary signal results in complete reboot of modem.

I did not drop a call using sierra wireless, and the I had reception almost everywhere i went. I only down side is the phone selection, which is not at the level of the major carriers yet.

Good product, not so good support

Strengths: We have Sierra Wireless gateways in all our vehicles. They provide reliable mobile network connections in some very tough geographical areas we patrol.

Needs to improve: Sometimes they are not the most robust and getting technical help can be tedius

Purchase many vehicle gateways from them, all have worked reliably.

Strengths: Reliable equipment, easy to understand manuals

Needs to improve: Telephone technical support is not the best
