I usually have a decent result when I purchase from Alan Steel for our metal needs. They do not have an online ordering system or web presence. The place is huge and is both a scrap yard and new retail supplier. If you know what you are looking for and have the time to look for it, Alan can be a good source of metal. If you are in a hurry and have specific needs, there are other suppliers who can do a better job. Usually the staff is pretty helpful and can meet you needs. Sometimes you need to work on your highschool Spanish to communicate though.

Strengths: Steel supply company on the SF Peninsula. Supplies businesses with ferrous and non ferrous metals. Both new and scrap available. Amazing supply, but varies as inventory changes. Welding consumables available as well. A physically large place with many areas to look through.

Needs to improve: Can be cluttered and dis-organized. Pricing is not places on items and requires multiple trips to the register to find the right prices. Some items can be really expensive. Time consuming to get the right items. No website. No online ordering

We had used Alan Steel & Supply Company when we have had a g-job and had to have some form of metal, either bar stock, tube, sheet, etc... Alan Steel has been a great source for addressing our immediate needs. They don't have any website or online ordering, so you will have to physically go to their location for metal needs. This is a huge place and will require a bit of time to locate the metal needs. If you don't have the time for a search, go to another supplier. Also it is a bit frustrating trying to get some info as communicating in English can be tough.

Needs to improve: they are a bit disorganized - like a big junk-yard. not everyone is a great communicator

Strengths: Alan Steel and Supply is a great supplier for our manufacturing and component building needs. They have both new and scrap supplies. We can buy flats, tubes and shapes for steel. It is a large business with many areas to pick through. The vast array of "stuff" can be confusing and difficult to locate, but most help knows the yard well and can direct you to the right place. You can buy ferrous and non ferrous, along with various grades of Aluminum. They even have old WWII belly tanks there.

Needs to improve: The area is a bit "dis-organized" and can be hard to find things. Some of the areas are more of scrap yards, so the variety varies from visit to visit. Cutting and service can take a bit of time to work through.

we have contracted with alan steel supply for our assembly line for many years. We have had them for awhile and we wouldn't change our vendor. They know what they are doing and their products have the highest quality we have dealt with. We have checked out other steel piping companies to go with and these guy are by far the best. Would recommend to anyone!

We frequently turn to Alan Steel & Supply Company when we need supplies for our manufacturing needs. Their products are reliable with a large selection to choose from, both new and old scraps. Although they have a huge range of scrap supplies to choose from, if you ask staff for help, they're usually able to help you find what you need. Would recommend.

Alan Steel and Supply has helped us gather a large of amount of steel scraps new and old over the years. They have gave us great deals and often have what we need! Though they do not have an online website they are great people to deal with in person!

This is a scrap metal haven. If you are cost conscious and need scrap metal fast and in large amounts without emphasis on consistent quality, then go here now. Solid recommendation.
