As many in the industry know, the faster you are able to iterate on prototypes the faster and higher quality products you can produce. We had been researching ways to do this within our company when we finally decided that 3D printing could be a solution for our needs. We reached out to Maker Bot Industries and were amazed with all that was possible with 3D printing. From the moment we reached out the team at Makerbot worked with us in a consulting fashion listening to our needs and addressing each one with great precision. We ended up purchasing two 3D printers and in doing that we also realized what a great support team this company has. When new situations arise that we don't know how to attack, the support team at Makerbot has been great in their problem solving and support. I would highly recommend looking to Makerbot for your 3D printing needs.
Strengths: Products

3D printing is the new hot thing, and is tremendous new technology that allows us to do prototyping in house. Before committing to a 3D printer, we had Makerbot 3D print (with their equipment) a few prototypes we were potentially launching. Very satisfied with the finished product, we decided to purchase a 3D printer from them and are very happy we did. This allows us to be more efficient with costs ,and saves us time as well. Their machines were also very easy to use and very durable. This is a great vendor for 3D printers and 3D printing needs!
Strengths: table top 3D printing, prototyping equipment and services.
Needs to improve: slow lead time, but this is a very expensive and intricate machine that takes time to configure and calibrate.
Our firm purchased a 3D printer from Makerbot Industries to do some rapid in house prototyping on some of our medical devices and the process has worked out fairly well. Makerbot has a wide selection of printers that we were able to choose from and the quality of the product has been amazing. We were always a bit reluctant to go this route due to the high price of 3D printing, but even with their higher price point, we feel like it has been beneficial for our firm to use this process. Their staff was helpful and friendly and was able to address all our questions. Great vendor with a quality product!
Strengths: 3d printers, quality products
Needs to improve: none
I've used many different consumer and business grade 3d printers, and without question the makerbot is the easiest to use and likely the best bang-for-your-buck. This truly is the machine that is like setting up an inkjet or laser printer. Just drop models in and you're good to go.
I had an issue with my machine and it took a lot of troubleshooting and back-and-forth with MakerBot to finally address the issue. Given the cost of the machine, I wasn't entirely surprised. But it is a minus nonetheless.
Strengths: Very affordable, easy to use software, fast setup.
Needs to improve: Support isn't the best, and you get what you pay for in terms of print quality.
A couple of our staff have been looking at 3d printers. It peaked our interest and we wondered how it could be incorporated into our business. Makerbot have become the industry standard in desktop 3d printing. They offer a variety of products for the home. We actually use it for our r&d department. They use it to build parts, tools, test designs and ergonomics. The machine itself is very innovative and easy to use. The customer service reps were knowledgeable. Things aren't always instock, but there are many options to choose from.
Strengths: fast prototyping
Needs to improve: pricing
3D rapid prototyping at a $2500 price point. Not the tightest tolerances but perfect for proof of concept. For the price of sending a few parts for SLA, you can own a machine. Once you get your idea refined then you can spend the $ for closer tolerance SLA or CNC parts.
Strengths: Great Fused Deposition 3D Rapid Prototyping Machines. Great Prices. Perfect for the startup environment.
Needs to improve: None
3D desktop printing for $2500. Great for prototyping before you spend big $ having your pars SLA, SLS, or CNC'd. From you head into Solidworks into you hands in just a few hours.
