Mound Laser & Photonics Center

Mound Laser & Photonics Center, Inc. (MLPC) began as part of the defense conversion of Mound Laboratory in October 1995. The company was subsequently purchased in 1998 by Laser Fare, Inc. of Smithfield, Rhode Island. After about three and a half years, Dr. Larry R. Dosser purchased the company back from Laser Fare in order to pursue the direction of laser-based microfabrication; the direction the company pursues to this date. At the time of the purchase, MLPC had 3 employees and a part-time bookkeeper, occupied about 3,000 square feet, and had one laser workstation.

Today, MLPC has over 60 employees, greater than 12,000 square feet of laboratory. Class 10,000 clean room,  and twenty-two laser workstations; five micromachining--picosecond, nanosecond, and femtosecond, three laser marking, eight laser welding, four laser microcutting/machining, one high-speed welding system, and one ablation system.

Mound Laser offers complete laser processing solutions beginning at the prototyping phase through contract manufacturing.  Mound Laser’s core competencies include laser welding, laser microcutting, laser micromachining, and laser marking.  Support services offered by Mound Laser include: CNC fixture fabrication, post processing, non-destructive/destructive analysis, material management, outsourced part manufacturing, nitinol heat setting, modeling and design. The company is ISO 9001:2008 Registered and EN ISO 13485:2012 Registered.
