Hobart makes a great line of 115v portable wired feed welders. These are great for sheet metal and up to 1/4" steel. They have more controls than other 115v welders making it easier to get a quality well. They also have a complete line of larger 230v and generator welders. I've also used a Stick (SMAW) generator welder an it produced quality welds with no signs of current variation.
Strengths: Welders - MIG, TIG, STICK & Plasma Cutters

Good reliable company
Strengths: Great combination of relatively inexpensive unit with a quality build. We have a smaller 110 volt MIG welder in our shop which we weld thin gauge sheet metal with a shielding gas. It is over 15 years old and used very often. It has been very dependable and though we have had to replace liners, drive rollers and tips, the power source and drive mechanism has always worked well.
Needs to improve: Limited customer support, not as many suppliers as Lincoln and Miller.
I have a Hobart Handler 140 which I use for welding steel and stainless steel. It makes for very easy welding of 1/8" and 3/16" stainless. My only complaint is that it can have difficulty feeding when the gun is curved or coiled much. This isn't too difficult to work around, and given the price, this is something I'm willing to work around.
Strengths: Welding equipment

We have a number of welders purchased from Hobart, and find them to be pretty reliable products considering the price. Some parts have required replacement but overall, we have been satisfied with the quality. Our Hobart welders have lasted us several years despite frequent use, would likely purchase the welders again.
Strengths: reliability, pricing
