About Ni-Ti Tubes

Consulting Services - We provide engineering support to start-ups as well as Fortune 500 companies designing NITINOL based devices. We can identify design flaws early on and suggest alternative designs that can substantially reduce cost.

Ni-Ti Metallography Test Laboratory

Macroetching is the procedure in which a specimen is etched and evaluated macro-structurally at low magnifications.

Macro-Examinations are also performed on a polished and etched cross-section of a welded material. During the examination, a number of features can be determined including weld run sequence, important for weld procedure qualification tests. In addition, any defects on the sample will be assessed for compliance with relevant specifications. Slag, porosity, lack of weld penetration, lack of sidewall fusion and poor weld profile are among the features observed in such examinations. It is normal to look for such defects either by standard visual examination or at magnifications of up to 50X. It is also routine to photograph the section to provide a permanent record. This is known as a photomacrograph.

AF Tester confirms the austenite finish of the stent or tube.

Grain Size Determination - In order to establish a scale for grain size, ASTM E112 shows charts which outline grain structures at various dimensions. This led to a universally accepted standard in which grain size ranges from 1 (very coarse) to 10 (very fine). A material's grain size is important as it affects its mechanical properties. Grain size is determined from a polished and etched sample using optical microscopy at a magnification of 100X.

Surface Evaluation - Surface inspection involves detecting surface flaws and measuring surface defects and roughness. One method uses a laser light. When the scattered light is reflected off the surface of a sample, it is measured. Another method uses a motorized stylus (profilometer). The stylus is placed on the surface and the texture of the material is measured in micro-inches or millimeters. SEM/ EDAX is also used to evaluate the surface and to identify contaminants.

Tensile Evaluation - This measures the mechanical properties of NITINOL - Loading Plateau, Unloading Plateau, Permanent Set, Ultimate Tensile Strength, Elongation.

We use NiTi tubing as a raw material for multiple products that we end up sending through laser cutting into stents. They offer a wide range of Ni-Ti compositions and are very knowledgeable when it comes to materials, properties, and characteristics. We have worked closely with them on numerous projects and they have been very helpful in achieving our goals. Their staff is extremely knowledgable, nice, and have even come to our facility a couple times to help us diagnose problems we were having with our manufacturing line. I definitely recommend them.

Strengths: ni-ti tubing, custom product, customer service

Needs to improve: none that i can think of

Machining Nitinol Hypotubes

Speed 3 / Price 3 / Quality 5

Ni-Ti tubes supplied nitinol hypotubes during early development stages. They had excellent capabilities, holding small diameters and tight tolerances. Their prices were higher than competition and leadtimes could be long, but the sales reps were willing to give price breaks on large orders. They had good capabilities for prototyping, but component supply for production is probably not ideal.

Strengths: Nitinol hypotubes, great capabilities, customer service

Needs to improve: Price, leadtime

They impressed in in 2012. We needed parts within 5 days for an R&D project - they were the only ones that would commit. Now we are ramping up for production with them.

Strengths: Strengths
- very fast delivery
- great quality
- Engineering knowledge and nitinol expertise.

Needs to improve: - so far, all my concerns are addressed immediately.

We use Ni-Ti Tubes in our production line. We evaluated 3 suppliers and needed to ensure the ID was clean with no contamination. We use ni- ti tubes as a cannula for cement delivery in the spine.

Strengths: rapid response
very knowledgable
great customer service and on time delivery

Needs to improve: not the cheapest tubing

Top Quality Metal Tubing in raw form

We purchase metal tubng raw for R&D and MFG engineering use. These are quality and the diameters are customer. We bend, twist, and many other things happen to them in search of product development.

Strengths: Quality metal tubing for R&D research of product improvement

Needs to improve: Expensive to do business with
